Murray angered by vicious critics

Andy Murray has hit out at those who he feels have been unduly critical of his approach to the game over the past 12 months.

Murray reached at least the semi-finals of all four grand slam tournaments last year, but was unable to lift any of the trophies, leading some critics to suggest he lacks the mental fortitude to succeed at the very highest level.

But ahead of the year's first grand slam, where Murray will have new coach Ivan Lendl in his corner, the Scot has fired a defiant message to his detractors.

"I've got used to the fact that people want to take apart my game," Murray told the Telegraph. "They ask whether I work hard enough, whether psychologically I'm strong enough, and it's something that motivates me to improve and to prove people wrong. That's what I plan on doing this year.

"I work on every part of my game, psychological, mental, physical and technical. I always try to make improvements and I think that's something people should try to understand. I invite anyone to come and watch me train, see the stuff I do on a daily basis, and decide for themselves whether I get the most out of my game."
