Petkovic pulls out of Wimbledon

Andrea Petkovic has been forced to pull out of Wimbledon after failing to shake off an ankle injury.

The German has failed to shake off the problem with her right foot, which she picked up at her home event in Stuttgart and forced her to miss the French Open. It was her first tournament back after missing the Australian Open with a back injury.

"Unfortunately I will not be able to return in time for Wimbledon this year," Petkovic said. "While this is another setback in my return, I will continue to work hard on getting back on court as soon as possible."

Petkovic broke into the world's top ten last year after reaching the quarter-finals at three of the four grand slams, but has slipped back to No. 18 after playing just one event this season.
