Roger Federer began his bid to win a seventh Wimbledon title in devastating fashion as he powered into the second round with victory over Albert Ramos.

The world No. 3 was in no mood to hang around as he blazed to a 6-1 6-1 6-1 victory in just an hour and 19 minutes.

The 16-time grand slam champion was forced to play his first match on unfamiliar territory - he has opened on Centre Court every year since 2004 - but there was nothing unusual about the score as he brushed aside the challenge of the Spaniard on Court No. 1.

Federer suffered a brief wobble as he dropped his serve in the fifth game of the opening set, but he swiftly recovered to stroll through the opening set. Ramos presented the Swiss with few challenges and Federer was in total control from the outset.

The crowd cheered as the world No. 43 held serve to avoid a final-set whitewash, but the result was never in doubt as Federer wrapped up the victory with an ace.

Next up for Federer is Italian Fabio Fognini, who battled from a set down to defeat Michael Llodra 3-6 6-3 6-4 7-5.
