Andy Murray recovered from a sluggish start to book his place in the Wimbledon semi-finals for a fourth consecutive year with victory over David Ferrer.

Murray looked to be in some trouble when Ferrer broke late in the second set for the chance to serve for a two-set lead, but the Scot bounced back to claim a 6-7(5) 7-6(6) 6-4 7-6(4) victory on Centre Court.

Murray will face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for a place in the final after the Frenchman defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber in four sets.

Ferrer beat Murray at the same stage of the French Open last month, and the world No. 5, who is in the best form of his career with four titles this season, started brightly, grabbing an early break for a 3-1 lead.

The Spaniard served for the opening set, but Murray saved a set point to break back and force a tiebreak. However his efforts were in vain as he threw away the tiebreak after some cagey tennis from both players.

Ferrer served for the second set after grabbing a late break, but once again Murray clawed his way back, this time winning the tiebreak, although he was forced to battle from 5-2 down and save set point in the process.

Despite seeing the chance for a two-set lead pass him by, Ferrer continued to prove a tricky customer, but Murray found a breakthrough with a fizzing forehand before an errant shot from Ferrer saw the British No. 1 take a 5-4 lead.

While Ferrer twice failed to serve out the set, Murray showed him how it was done as he wrapped up a love service game with an ace to move within one set of the last four.

With the fourth set finely in the balance at 5-5, the players were forced off the court for a brief rain delay. The organisers decided not to shut the roof, and when play resumed, the set was destined for a third tiebreak, and the Scot showed nerves of steel to wrap up the match in three hours and 52 minutes.

In what will be a match between last year's two beaten semi-finalists, Murray will bid to reach his first final at the All England Club when he takes on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Friday. The No. 5 seed was pushed all the way by Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber, but triumphed 7-6(5) 4-6 7-6(3) 6-2 in an absorbing clash on Court One.
