Defending US Open champion Novak Djokovic could not find any faults within his own game after a superb opening-round defeat of Paolo Lorenzi in which he dropped just two games.

The World No. 2 looked in excellent shape as he opened the defence of his crown with a crushing 6-1 6-0 6-1 win over the Italian, and he was extremely pleased with the manner of his victory as well as the efficiency with which he progressed.

"My game was great from the start to the end," said the Serb. "It's also important for me to try to be as economical with the time I spend on the court as possible, but obviously not underestimating any opponent.

"I played really focused, tried to get to the net also. It was great all in all."

The comment regarding getting into the net came after Djokovic had spent plenty of time working on that aspect of his game. "I feel my net game isn't that bad and I should use the opportunity. I have many times a chance to come to the net and finish off the point earlier," he commented.

"That's a part of a game which I was working on with my team. It takes time. I am aware of that. I've learned throughout my career to be patient, to work and to stay dedicated and things will come to their place and I will get results.

"Obviously I'm a baseline player. I don't want to change the game upside down. But I think that having that variety of coming to the net, chip and charging sometimes, serving and volleying, it's important in today's tennis."
