Top seed Wozniacki sent crashing out in Stuttgart

Top seed Caroline Wozniacki was sent crashing out of the Porsche Grand Prix by world No. 38 Lucie Safarova.
The 4-6 4-6 defeat marks the first occasion in five tournaments that Wozniacki has not reached at least the quarter-final stage.
Ultmately the 19-year-old Dane was made to pay for her inability to make inroads into her opponent's serve. Safarova, who lost just 13 points on serve, did not concede a break point over the course of the two sets.
Sixth seed Victoria Azarenka also exited the tournament after losing 3-6 3-6 to unheralded qualifier Anna Lapushchenkova. Azarenka, who double-faulted seven times, produced a substandard performance littered with unforced errors against the World No. 138.
Justine Henin looked in good form as she made it through safely with a 6-3 7-5 win over Yanina Wickmayer. The Belgian suffered a broken finger last week but the injury did little to spoil her game as she overcame a break in each set to seal her progress.
Elsewhere, Sam Stosur recovered from a dismal start to defeat Alexandra Dulgheru 3-6 6-0 6-2. Seventh seed Stosur failed to create any promising angles off her serve in the first set as she conceded three breaks.
Stosur, who has entered the world's top ten after a successful start to 2010, made it 20 wins so far this year by raising her game above the mediocre in the final two sets.
