British No. 1 Laura Robson suffered a first-round exit at the BNP Paribas Katowice Open in Poland after losing 7-5 6-7(7) 1-6 to Lourdes Dominguez Lino.

The 19-year-old made the perfect start to the encounter by clinching the opening set. However, problems with her serve as the match went on allowed Spaniard Dominguez Lino to claw her way back, and eventually book her place in the second round.

On Monday, Robson is at a career-high of No. 39 in the world rankings - overtaking Heather Watson as the top British women's player - but could not cap off her achievement against the player 20 places above her in the standings.

Robson appeared to be on her way to victory after seizing the initiative by clinching the first set after a sluggish start. Then, the Brit lost out 9-7 in an entertaining second-set tiebreak, before falling apart in the deciding set as she could only claim one game and was unable to deny Dominguez Lino the victory.

Robson will be disappointed with her display having finished a runner-up in the doubles final at the Sony Open in Miami at the backend of March. It is the fifth time this season Robson has fallen at the first stage of an event.
