1997 Wimbledon singles champion Martina Hingis is to return to the All England club this summer to compete in the veterans doubles event with former partner Anna Kournikova.

The 29-year-old Swiss, who won five Grand Slam singles titles, retired from the WTA Tour in 2007 after testing positive for cocaine while competing at that year's Wimbledon championships. Kournikova, who reached the Wimbledon singles semi-final in 1997, has not competed on Tour since 2003 because of injury.

The pair formed a formidable partnership in the 1990s, winning the Australian open doubles title in 1999 and 2002, reaching No.1 in the doubles world rankings and earning the 1999 Doubles Team of the Year award from the WTA Tour.

"Anna and I have had a lot of success together and I look forward to being reunited with her at Wimbledon," Hingis said. "Having won the singles in 1997 and doubles in 1996 and 1998, I am excited about returning to the place where I have had some of the best memories of my career."

An equally excited Kournikova said: "I'm so excited to be returning to the UK to play doubles with Martina again. This tournament has always held a special place in my heart, and it will be a great honour to play on the courts of Wimbledon again. I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun."
