Bogdanovic's Wimbledon slump continues

The dismal Wimbledon record of British No. 5 Alex Bogdanovic continued on Tuesday as he succumbed to Evgeny Korolev in the second round of qualifying at Roehampton.

Bogdanovic, currently ranked 274th in the world, was handed a wild card to the main Wimbledon draw for eight successive years between 2002-2009 but failed to get past the first round on each occasion.

The Serbian-born 29-year-old has not qualified for SW19 since, a run which extended to this year after Korolev ran out a 7-5 2-6 6-3 winner.

British No. 7 Jamie Baker is also out, beaten 6-7 (5) 6-3 6-4 by world No. 35 Igor Kunitsyn, while British No. 14 David Rice was brushed aside 6-3 6-4 by Flavio Cipolla.

The results mean just three men - Andy Murray, James Ward and Kyle Edmund - will represent Great Britain in the third grand slam of the season.

In the women's draw, just two Britons kept their Wimbledon dreams alive - both surprise victories.

Naomi Broady ended the chances of Canadian Stephanie Dubois 6-2 7-6 (4) while Jade Windley eased past Tereza Mrdeza of Croatia 6-2 6-4 - even though both Brits are more than 200 places below their opponents in the world rankings.

Katy Dunne, Lisa Whybourn, Amanda Carreras, Emily Webley-Smith, Anna Smith and Melanie South were all knocked out.
