Jankovic remains philosophical after climbing to No. 4

Former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic is enjoying an impressive run of form but remains philosophical about her success after climbing to No. 4 in the world rankings.

The Serb reached her second final of the year at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, where she lost to Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, but Jankovic has rediscovered the winning mentality, beating both world No. 1 and the new world No. 3 Venus Williams along the way.

"I have my hunger back," Jankovic said. "You have to go down in order to go up again. You can't always be a winner and I am talking about life in general.

"I used to get down on myself, but not anymore. There are so many more important things in life than losing a tennis match. People are dying, starving or homeless and I am crying because I lost? That's not right.

"If you think about it, you realise this is a dream life. You're making lots of money, you have seen the world and you are getting applauded by people who have paid to watch you play. If you lose a match, as long as you did what you are supposed to do and fought 100 percent, I cannot cry about it."

In the men's rankings, there were no changes in the top ten, but following his victory at the BMW Open in Munich, Russia's Mikhail Youzhny moved up two places to No. 13, while John Isner moved back into the top 20.
