Elena Baltacha is "pretty optimistic" that she will recover from injury in time to take part in the French Open, which begins on May 23.

The British No. 1 was forced to retire with a back complaint during her match against Anastasia Rodionova at this week's Strasbourg International.

"I've got five or six days to recover and when I've had this problem in the past that's been enough," Baltacha said.

"It's very frustrating. I woke and straight away I knew there was a problem. I gave it a go but there was no way I could continue. With so many big tournaments coming up it's better not to take any chances. I'm pretty optimistic about Roland Garros."

Britain's Naomi Cavaday will definitely not be playing in the French Open after she lost 6-3 7-5 to Beatriz Garcia Vidagany in the first round of qualifying for the event.
