Murray to undergo back surgery


Andy Murray has revealed his rehabilitation plans to aid recovery from a recent back injury - playing the latest instalment of popular football game Pro Evolution Soccer.

Murray confirmed on Thursday he would undergo minor surgery on the troublesome back, which has given him grief over the past 18 months. The British No. 1 pulled out of the French Open when discs in his lower back flared up in May, but returned to win his first Wimbledon title in June.

The Scot is more susceptible to the injury on hard or clay courts; Murray relinquished his US Open crown when bowing out to Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarter-finals and then complained of further discomfort last weekend when helping Great Britain overcome Croatia to reach the Davis Cup World Group for the first time in five years.

Now facing a possible two-month lay-off, which has jeopardised his appearance at the end-of-season ATP World Tour Finals at London's O2 Arena in November, Murray has turned to another type of disc in order to stave off the boredom.

However, instead of picking up a copy of the latest tennis game, Murray has opted to test his fingers in the virtual environment of a football pitch - where hopefully he can get Scotland to a World Cup.
