Murray on the mend after back surgery

British No. 1 Andy Murray is in recovery after undergoing minor surgery to ease the longstanding problems with his back.

Murray tweeted a picture of himself in hospital with both thumbs up after the operation to release pressure on his sciatic nerve, which forced him out of the French Open earlier this year and required careful management through his run to the Wimbledon title.

His US Open title defence ended in the quarter-finals but he helped Great Britain beat Croatia to book its spot in the Davis Cup World Group before going under the knife.

It is unlikely that Murray will play again this season after the elective procedure. He has already pulled out of the Asian swing of the ATP calendar, and is also expected to miss the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals at The O2.

The 26-year-old Scot tweeted that the first thing he said when he came round from the operation was: "Did I win?"

All being well, Murray plans on returning to the court for pre-season training in Miami in November.
