Baltacha 'relieved' as rain delays Birmingham event

Elena Baltacha has been given an extra day to recover from heatstroke after the majority of the day's play was rained off at the AEGON Classic in Birmingham.
Baltacha, like Anne Keothavong and Laura Robson, was scheduled to play on Tuesday, but only three matches played to completion due to a series of showers.
The British No. 1 had been fearing her clash with Kaia Kanepi, after developing heatstroke at the AEGON Trophy in Nottingham last week. Baltacha won the event, but only after playing three matches in 24 dehydrating hours.
"I'm quite glad, to be honest," she said. "It gives me another day and a night to get stronger. The rain was a bit of a blessing."
Of the games that did finish, No. 9 seed Aleksandra Wozniak was the biggest name to progress after a 7-5 6-1 victory over Alicia Molik. There was also a 6-4 6-4 win for Vania King over Kirsten Flipkens and a 6-2 3-6 6-2 triumph for Ayumi Morita against Maria Elena Camerin.
