Williams: I will win more slams

Serena Williams is keen to add further grand slam titles to her impressive haul despite a shock early exit from Wimbledon.

Number one seed Williams was beaten in three sets by 24th seed Alize Cornet on No.1 Court on Saturday. It is only the third time in 15 visits to SW19 that Williams has lost inside the first three rounds; she was beaten at the same stage in 1998 and 2005.

Defeat means Williams has been knocked out of the first three grand slams of the year before the quarter-final stage, although she is still confident she can improve on her current tally of 17 grand slam crowns.

"It's something I'm obviously going to keep going for," Williams said. "It's definitely something in my mind, it's pretty important."

Williams is just one grand slam short of Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova respective totals of 18 slam titles, while Steffi Graf leads the way on 22.

Cornet's victory marked her first win against a top-20 ranked player at a grand slam and Williams believes other players raise their games to play her.

"I think everyone in general plays the match of their lives against me," said Williams. "I just have to always, every time I step on the court, be a hundred times better. If I'm not, then I'm in trouble."

Williams was knocked out in the fourth round of the Australian Open and lost in the second round at Roland Garros. Her early exit from Wimbledon means she will have to successfully defend her US Open title in August if she is to add to her grand slam tally this season.
