Bouchard says sorry for final thrashing

Eugenie Bouchard apologised to the Centre Court crowd after her Wimbledon final thrashing at the hands of Petra Kvitova.

The 20-year-old, in her first grand slam final, was beaten 6-3 6-0 in just 55 minutes with Kvitova claiming her second title at the All England Club.

The 15 games played were the fewest in a women's Wimbledon final since Steffi Graf defeated Monica Seles 6-2 6-1 in 1992.

"I'd like to congratulate Petra. She played fantastic for the two weeks," a dejected Bouchard said on court after her defeat.

"I feel like it's a step in the right direction. I don't know if I deserve all of your love today but I really appreciate it.

"It was really tough for me today but I'm proud of how I played this whole tournament. I love coming back to Wimbledon."

Bouchard was broken in her last five service games and six times overall, winning just 24 points on her own serve while Kvitova won 23 points on her first serve.

The Canadian took 37 points over the entire match compared to Kvitova's 61 and admitted she hopes to make up for the defeat.

"After the match I was in the engravers room watching them work, wishing and dreaming that they'll write my name there one day," Bouchard added in her post-match press conference.

"I definitely got outplayed. Sometimes your opponent just plays better than you and that's what she did.

"I'm going to spend a lot of time on my couch [when I'm home], so that's the first goal. I'll definitely have some dessert tonight too."
