Wimbledon champion Nadal raises the bar

Rafael Nadal has set his sights on working on all parts of his game as he looks to complete a career Grand Slam.

The world No. 1 beat Tomas Berdych in straight sets to win a second Wimbledon crown, and an eighth Grand Slam title, and he now turns his focus to the hard courts ahead of the US Open in August.

"The main thing is to really want to improve on every surface," Nadal said. "For me, to play well on grass was always my dream, and to play here at Wimbledon was always a big goal.

"If you want to play well on a surface and you are good player you find a way. To play well on grass at Wimbledon was always a dream for me and the most important thing is to have the belief that you can do it."

The US Open is the only major title Nadal is yet to win, but he insists he approaches each point in every tournament the same.

"I expect to play my best on every point and fight for every point like it is the last one. I don't think if the match is going to be difficult. I just go on court and fight point by point."

It is the second time Nadal has won Wimbledon just a few weeks after winning the French Open, but soon becoming the first man since Bjorn Borg to achieve the feat in 2008, Nadal began to struggle with tendinitis in his knees. However, he does not want to draw comparisons with 2008 and insists he feels physically fit and is back to his best.

"I did it once before, I won two Grand Slams in one month," he said. "But I don't want to compare a few years ago with now."
