Rafael Nadal has admitted he will look to tailor his schedule to ensure he is in prime shape for the US Open.

The US Open is the only grand slam missing from Nadal's glittering CV, as he has five French Opens, two Wimbledons and one Australian Open to his name.

The hard courts of the United States tend to take a significant toll on Nadal's suspect knees and he has often been feeling the effects of a long season when he arrives at Flushing Meadows.

The Spaniard is aware of the need to protect his knees as he sees the US Open as a major career goal.

"For me if I have the chance to win the US Open it will be amazing to complete the four," Nadal told the ATP's website. "It is the most difficult tournament for me because that part of the season is a little bit more difficult. But after winning here [Wimbledon] for the second time and Roland Garros and Australia, the US Open is a goal and will be for the rest of my career.

"I will try to prepare well and arrive well in New York. Any tournament is difficult to win but I will try my best. I have been in two semi-finals there so I am not very far away."
