Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard suffered a shock second-round defeat in her hometown of Montreal to American qualifier Shelby Rogers at the Rogers Cup.

Bouchard, the fifth seed, was playing for the first time since being thrashed by Petra Kvitova in the Wimbledon final and looked similarly out of sorts on home soil.

On a day where a seven-hour power outage in the area shut down the scoreboards and umpires' microphones, as well as leaving the players without light in the clubhouse, Bouchard sparked briefly in the second set but looked lifeless in the first and third as she went down to a 6-0 2-6 6-0 defeat.

Bouchard admitted her long lay-off hadn't helped. "I was feeling the pressure a little bit on the court - I felt a little match rusty, kind of," she told the WTA website.

"But I knew coming into the match that I can't use those as excuses. I knew it would be kind of a difficult situation. But I'm happy I was able to at least prove to myself that I could turn things around and not let the match run away from me completely. That's definitely a positive from the match."

Caroline Wozniacki eased past Daniel Hantuchova 6-1 6-1 and seemingly had a tougher time getting ready for her match than when she was actually on court.

"It's just so different: Everywhere, in the locker room, it's so dark," Wozniacki said. "We have to use our flashlights and phones. The water is freezing, as well."

Elsewhere, Agnieszka Radwanska moved into the third round with a hard-fought 6-4 6-4 win in one hour and 38 minutes against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.

In other second round matches, Victoria Azarenka beat Serena Williams' Wimbledon conqueror Alize Cornet 6-4 2-6 6-4, while there was a 6-1 6-2 victory for Ana Ivanovic against Timea Bacsinszky.

Elena Vesnina also replaced Andrea Petkovic after she pulled out sick and secured a 6-4 3-6 6-2 win over Camila Giorgi.

"I pushed it back until the end and really tried to get healthy," 16th seed Petkovic said in a statement. "But I had a temperature and a fever and it's too risky to play like that in these kinds of conditions. I'm very disappointed."
