Mahut returns with win over Falla

Nicolas Mahut returned to the court following his exertions at Wimbledon and showed no signs of fatigue as he beat No. 3 seed Alejandro Falla at the Campbell's Hall of Fame Championship.

Mahut was involved in the epic match with John Isner but he proved he was fully recovered by battling to a 6-3 1-6 6-3 win over his Colombian opponent.

British No. 12 Richard Bloomfield had a notable win in the first round, beating Belgium's Christophe Rochus 7-6(1) 6-3. The Brit is ranked 392 places below his rival but came through to set up a second-round clash with Santiago Giraldo.

Sam Querrey is the No. 1 seed at the Rhode Island event and he had no trouble in beating fellow American Jesse Levine 6-3 6-3.

Second seed Santiago Giraldo was made to work to claim a 7-6 (1) 1-6 6-4 win over Alexander Peya, while Mardy Fish dropped just three games in his win over Michael Russell.
