Top seeds all through in Bastad

World No. 12 Flavia Pennetta looked sharp as she powered her way into the third round of the Swedish Open in Bastad with a 6-1 6-1 win over Sloane Stephens.
The Italian, the top seed for the tournament, broke her American opponent's serve five times as she sealed her progress in just over an hour.
No. 2 seed Avrane Rezai also moved through in comfortable fashion as she overcame Renata Voracova 6-4 6-2, but No. 3 seed Lucie Safarova and fourth seed Gisela Dulko both needed three sets to advance.
Safarova looked in danger of slipping out as she lost the first set against Karolina Sprem but mustered the strength to turn things around and fight her way through 2-6 7-5 6-3, while Dulko overcame some shaky serving in the second set to come away with a 6-2 1-6 7-6(7) win over Tatjana Malek.
Arantxa Parra Santonja overcame Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-4 6-3, while Ana Vrljic battled past Arantxa Rus 7-5 5-7 6-4 in a match that saw 17 service breaks in 34 games. There were also wins for Jill Craybas and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
At the GDF Suez Grand Prix in Budapest, top seed Alisa Kleybanova crashed to a surprise 6-4 6-3 defeat against Switzerland's Patty Schnyder. The Russian created 13 break points but managed to convert just one as she failed to live with her opponent's accurate hitting.
Anastasija Sevastova upset the odds to take out No. 5 seed Peng Shuai in straight sets. The Latvian dominated throughout as she crushed her Chinese opponent 6-1 6-1. No. 8 seed Polona Hercog also looked to be set for an early exit but fought back from losing the first set to seal a 4-6 6-4 6-4 success over Catalina Castano.
Alexandra Dulgheru's match with Anna Chakvetadze was suspended due to darkness with the score at 1-1 in sets.
