Home favourite Wozniacki clinches Danish Open title
Home favourite Caroline Wozniacki clinched her eighth WTA Tour title by cruising past Klara Zakopalova in straight sets at the inaugural Danish Open.
The world No. 3 required a mere 78 minutes to defeat the fourth seed 6-2 7-6(5) at the Farum Arena in Copenhagen.
Zakopalova, who beat Na Li in the semi-finals, suffered for her inability to win the crucial points during what was a match of fine margins.
Twenty-year-old Wozniacki claimed three of the four break points she was offered as she showed a composure that belied her inexperience.
In the final of the Mercury Insurance Open in San Diego, California, Svetlana Kuznetsova won her 13th career title by upsetting world No.10 Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4 6-7 6-3 in an epic final.
The pair have history, with Kuznetsova now leading the head-to-head rivalry 7-3 overall. Their last meeting was in the final of the hardcourt tournament in Beijing last year, which Kuznetsova also won.
But she was made to work for over two and a half hours on this occasion. In a match nearly dead even in the stats department, it was the Russian's superior efficiency on the big points - she claimed five breaks from 11 opportunities to Radwanska's three from 12 - that proved the difference.
