British starlet Laura Robson has moved into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open girls' singles tournament with a comfortable 6-3 6-3 victory over Cristina Dinu.
Robson, who was born in Melbourne, has developed quite a following over the past 10 days due to her partnership with Australian Sally Peers in the women's doubles. The pair are currently in the quarter-finals, but it is the girls' singles title Robson craves after losing in the final last year.
The 16-year-old looks a far stronger player than the one that lost to Ksenia Pervak in 2009; the serve proving to be particularly solid, helping Robson convert 78% of points on her own first serve against Dinu. Only once was her serve broken in what turned out to be a highly accomplished 67 minutes on court.
Contrastingly on Dinu's serve, Robson created seven break opportunities, taking four of them to set up a last-eight clash with Ester Goldfeld of the United States.
Meanwhile, in the boys' competition Oliver Golding battled impressively before losing in straight sets to Australian wildcard James Duckworth in the third round. Duckworth took the match 7-6(6) 7-5.
