Britain's Elena Baltacha avenged her humiliating first-round defeat at Wimbledon, with a crushing 6-2 6-2 victory over Petra Martic to get her US Open campaign off to a flyer.
The British No. 1, who is playing in the main draw for the first time at Flushing meadows, suffered a gut-wrenching loss to Martic at SW19 after being a set and a break up.
But the 27-year-old Scot turned the tables on her Croatian opponent, racing through the first set before earning a double-break in the second to storm into the second round.
Baltacha, currently ranked No. 57 in the world, looked in confident mood from the outset, breaking Martic early on in the first set to gain the initiative.
It was a typical display for the Brit - tonnes of energy and vigour, followed by lots of fist-pumping. And her opponent, the world No. 88, simply could not live with Baltacha's aggressive power-hitting.
A second break of serve followed as Baltacha took the opening set in style and she didn't let up in the second, dictating play with consummate ease.
The Scot has the chance to break into the world's top 50 for the first time should she perform well in New York. A solid opening match, in which she did not lose her service once, was a great marker to put down.
