Baltacha breaks world top 50

British No. 1 Elena Baltacha has reset her goals after breaking into the world's top 50 for the first time.
Baltacha's first-round victory over Croatia's Petra Martic at the US Open was enough to move here up to 49, and now she has set her sights on a top-40 spot.
"It's been my dream to break the top 100 and now we're talking about the top 50," she told BBC Radio Suffolk last week. "If I do make the top 50 then you change your goals and look at top 40."
Serena Williams retains her place at the top of the women's rankings, despite missing the US Open, but semi-finalist Caroline Wozniacki edges closer to the coveted No. 1 spot.
In the men's rankings, Novak Djokovic has overtaken Roger Federer as the world No. 2, while Rafael Nadal's first US Open victory has seen him move nearly 5000 points clear of his rivals.
British No. 1 Andy Murray remains as world No. 4, but is only 125 points ahead of Sweden's Robin Soderling.
The 2009 US Open winner Juan Martin del Potro has plummeted to 34 in the rankings after losing 2000 points. The Argentinian failed to recover from a wrist injury in time to defend his title.
