Jankovic ousted in Tokyo as Wozniacki rolls

Third seed Jelena Jankovic was sent crashing out of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo by Estonia's Kaia Kanepi.
In both sets Jankovic lost her final service game to hand her opponent a 6-4 6-4 victory. After snatching the opener, Kanepi carried her momentum into the second with an early break, but Jankovic battled her way back to level. However, the world No. 6 won less than 30 percent of points on her second serve as she succumbed in straight sets to her US Open conqueror.
Kanepi will now meet French Open champion Francesca Schiavone, who ended home favourite Kimiko Date Krumm's dream run in the Japanese capital.
Date Krumm, who last won the tournament in 1995, celebrated her 40th birthday with the upset of Daniela Hantuchova on Tuesday after claiming the scalp of defending champion Maria Sharapova on Monday. But the fifth seed proved too strong in a 6-3 6-3 victory.
Top seed Caroline Wozniacki eased into the last eight with a 6-1 6-2 win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in just 70 minutes. The world No. 2, who has conceded only seven games in her opening two matches, will now meet Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska after the sixth seed beat Andrea Petkovic 6-3 6-3.
Elena Dementieva set up an all-Russian quarter-final with Vera Zvonareva after the seventh seed got the better of Italy's Flavia Pennetta. US Open finalist Zvonareva, meanwhile, also had to beat an Italian to progress. The US Open finalist won seven games in a row to wrap up a 6-4 6-0 win over Roberta Vinci.
In the final quarter-final, Victoria Azarenka will meet American teenager Coco Vandeweghe. Eighth seed Azarenka had a relatively easy passage into the last eight after opponent Marion Bartoli was forced to retire after struggling with a virus. Azarenka had won the opening set 6-2 when Bartoli conceded. Vandeweghe, the only remaining qualifier left in the draw, continued her impressive run with a 6-3 6-0 win over Julia Goerges.
