British No. 1 Elena Baltacha recovered from a slow start to beat first-round opponent Jamie Hampton and set up a second-round clash with seven-time grand slam champion Justine Henin.

Baltacha found herself a set down but dug deep to level the scores. The Scot snatched an early break in the decider before Hampton won three games on the bounce to take a 5-4 lead, but Baltacha held her nerve to book her place in the second round with a 3-6 6-4 7-5 victory.

"I knew not to get annoyed or frustrated. The experience was to stay cool and calm," Baltacha said.

Baltacha will now meet former world No. 1 Henin after the Belgian rallied from a set down to beat Sania Mirza 5-7 6-3 6-1.

Baltacha is joined in the second round by compatriot Anne Keothavong, who only needed two sets to beat Russia's Arina Rodionova 7-5 6-4.

Keothavong has already come through three rounds of qualifying, but the world No. 118 showed no signs of fatigue as she set up a second-round clash with No. 30 seed Andrea Petkovic.
