Digging deep
Trailing 2-1 in the opening set in the final against Novak Djokovic, Murray was firmly on the back foot. Djokovic had come out all guns blazing and was pinging the forehands from one side to another as Murray desperately scuttled back and forth trying to hang on. Djokovic moved in for the kill, coming to the net as Murray dived for a backhand, but somehow the Scot managed to pull off an inch-perfect passing shot to level 2-2.

Stripping off
Murray often throws his wristbands into the crowd, but Djokovic went one better, stripping down to his shorts and throwing virtually every item of his kit bag to the cheering spectators in the Rod Laver Arena. The Serbian chucked his shirt, shoes, racket and even towels - before raising his arms in triumph.

No tears for Murray
"I'll try and keep it together this time," Murray said after he famously turned on the waterworks following his defeat to Roger Federer in last year's final. But there was little to smile about for Murray, who hit 47 unforced errors and fell to the worst defeat in an Australian Open final since Andre Agassi's 6-2 6-2 6-1 win over Rainer Schuettler in 2003.

No home cheer
Britain's 75-year wait for a male grand slam champion continues, but spare a thought for the Australian crowd. While they were treated to two weeks of high-quality tennis in Melbourne, there wasn't a single Australian champion - as their last hope - Paul Hanley, lost his mixed doubles final with partner Yung-Jan Chan 6-3 3-6 10-7 to Daniel Nestor and Katarina Srebotnik.
