BNP Paribas Open seedings

Fourth seed Robin Soderling suffered a shock loss at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, crashing out of the tournament at the hands of Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Both players earned two breaks of serve in the opening set, although it was Kohlschreiber who was looking the more potent in attack, as the German carved out seven break-points - of which he could only convert two.

As the set headed to a tiebreak there was a sense that it would be decisive to the outcome of the match, and so it proved, with Kohlschreiber taking it 10-8 before earning a solitary break in the second set to seal a deserved 7-6(8) 6-4 victory.

Rafael Nadal continued his 2011 domination over Ryan Sweeting, beating the American 6-3 6-1 to make it two-from-two this year.

Sweeting failed to create so much as a break point against the world No.1, Nadal oozing class as he raced to victory in 68 minutes. Next up for Nadal is yet another qualifier in Somdev Devvarman. The Indian beat Xavier Malisse 1-6 6-3 7-6 in a thiller.

Andy Murray's surprise conqueror Donald Young did not make the most of his run in the tournament, crashing out 6-0 6-4 against 25th seed Tommy Robredo.

Alberto Montanes upset world No.12 Nicolas Almagro 4-6 6-2 6-4 in an all-Spanish affair and there was plenty of entertainment in Juan del Potro's 7-6 6-3 victory over Alexandr Dolgopolov.

In other third round action, Ivo Karlovic defeated Gilles Simon 6-3 6-3 and Sam Querrey upset top ten star Fernando Verdasco 7-5 6-4 under lights in the late match.
