World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki continued her serene progress at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, sweeping aside Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-1 6-3 to book a place in the fourth round.

Wozniacki, who dispatched American wildcard Sloane Stephens 6-3 6-2 in the previous round, was equally dominant against her Spanish opponent and needed only 71 minutes to sail through.

The Dane entered the encounter with a less-than-impressive inferior 3-0 match record against Sanchez but she quickly asserted her authority, breaking twice to take the first set at a canter.

Sanchez offered more resistance in the second, carving out two break-point opportunities. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, Wozniacki was serving with aplomb, winning 86% of her second serve opportunities to deny Sanchez a way back into the match.

Her opponent in the next round will be Alisa Kleybanova, who caused a shock by dumping out No. 13 seed Flavia Pennetta 6-3 6-4. Both players struggled with their service in the first set but it was Kleybanova who took her chances to gain the upper hand.

The Russian then enjoyed perfect success on her first serve, winning all 14 points and, although she was broken once, she hit back to edge the second set.

Fourth seed Sam Stosur was a big name loser as Dinara Safina stretched her record to 4-1 against the Aussie. This latest triumph was a narrow 7-6 6-4 achieved despite giving up 16 double faults, which made up nearly half the points Stosur took on Safina's serve.

Ninth seed Agnieszka Radwanska survived a second-set fightback from Maria Kirilenko to stay in with a chance of winning her first title of the year, eventually prevailing 6-0 2-6 7-5. Victoria Azarenka, meanwhile, progressed with a 7-6 6-3 win over Agnieszka's sister Urszula Radwanska.

Maria Sharapova cruised to a surprisingly quick victory over Aravane Rezai, progressing 6-2 6-2 in 73 minutes. And Nadia Petrova rounded out the third round winners, coming from behind to beat American Christina McHale 3-6 6-4 6-2. Shuai Peng saw off the threat of qualifier Lucie Hrapecka, getting up 6-3 4-6 7-5.
