Goerges stuns Wozniacki to claim title

Julia Goerges produced an inspired performance to defeat top seed Caroline Wozniacki and claim her second WTA Tour title at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.
The German world No. 32 showed impressive maturity to claim a 7-6(3) 6-3 second victory on home soil following her maiden title at Bad-Gastein last year.
After neither player was able to make a breakthrough in an edgy opening set, Goerges took command in the tiebreak, winning five points on the bounce to move within a point of the opening set.
And in a pivotal moment in the match, the German rode the crest of a wave into the second set to snatch the lead in what would prove to be the only break of the game.
With victory within her sights, Goerges served strongly as she held her nerve to serve out for the title as Wozniacki was left to rue four missed break point opportunities.
At the Grand Prix de SAR, Alberta Brianti shocked seventh seed Simona Halep 6-4 6-3 to win her first career title. In an error-strewn final, both players earned breaks of serve but Brianti raised her level in the decisive moments to seal the victory.
