Goerges wins two matches in one day in Austria

Julia Goerges recorded one of the most hard-earned triumphs of the WTA Tour season as she won two matches in one day to claim the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies title.
Goerges had been scheduled to play her semi-final against Aliza Cornet on Saturday, but poor weather meant the match was postponed until Sunday morning. Fortunately, the German wrapped that encounter up in 73 minutes, and then set about winning the tournament with a 6-1 6-4 victory over Timea Bacsinszky in the final.
The semi-final win against Cornet came in exciting fashion as the serve acted as little advantage for either player, with ten breaks occurring in 17 games. Goerges had the better of it, completing seven of eight break chances to win 6-1 6-4.
Afforded little time to rest before the final ensued, few could have grumbled had Goerges succumbed to her heavy workload. Quite to the contrary though, she used her earlier court time to race out of the blocks, breaking Bacsinszky three times thanks to a double-fault to take the opening set in 34 minutes.
The expected dip then took effect in the Goerges game as she allowed her opponent back into the match, serving a fifth double fault of her own to gift Bacsinszky a 3-2 advantage in the second set.
That lead grew to 4-3, but then the German dug deep one final time to reel off back-to-back breaks, wrapping up victory with her second match point on the Bacsinszky serve.
At the Slovenia Open, Anna Chakvetadze outclassed Joanna Larsson in a one-sided affair, triumphing 6-1 6-2 in 61 minutes.
