Chakvetadze sends seventh seed packing in Slovenia

Anna Chakvetadze caused another shock at the Slovenia Open, dumping out seventh seed Polona Hercog 0-6 6-2 6-2 in the semi-finals.
On Friday, third seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was sent crashing out by world No. 84 Johanna Larsson, and this time it was Hercog who was on the receiving end of a shock loss.
Hercog, playing in her home tournament, looked on course for a comfortable victory having breezed through the first set without losing a game. But after she missed a chance to break again in the second game of the second set, Chakvetadze dominated proceedings.
Chakvetadze, a top-five player in 2007, has fallen to 103 in the world rankings but her victory propelled her into her first final in almost two years.
Johanna Larsson lies in wait for Chakvetadze after she booked a place in the final courtesy of Ksenia Pervak's retirement. The Swede won the first set 6-2 and was leading 1-0 in the second when her opponent was forced to quit.
Meanwhile at the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies event in Austria, second seed Timea Bacsinszky came from a set down to overturn Yvonne Meusburger.
But she will have to wait to find out who her opponent in the final will be after the clash between Alize Cornet and Julia Goerges was cancelled due to rain and rescheduled for Sunday.
