Mardy Fish believes he is back to his best after winning back-to-back titles for the first time in his career.

Fish came from a set down to beat fellow American John Isner 4-6 6-4 7-6(4) to win the Atlanta Tennis Championships, his second straight tournament victory after his win at the Hall of Fame Championships in Newport a fortnight ago. The victory sees him move up 14 places to 35 in the world rankings.

"This is as top as I've ever been," said Fish. "I've never won two tournaments in one year, I've never won two tournaments in a row and on the ATP Tour, I've never won 10 matches in a row. It's probably as good as it's been."

Fish was ranked inside the top 20 in less than a year, but a knee injury saw him plummet to outside the world top 100. After recovering from knee surgery, a rigorous fitness routine with trainer Christian LoCascio has seen him lose 30 pounds, and he is now reaping the benefits.

"It feels great, obviously putting in the work," he said. "This is what we wanted to do. This is where we wanted to be. These are the types of matches we targeting in October when we were rehabbing the knee. It feels like a long time ago. It feels great."

In the women's rankings, Germany's Julia Goerges moved into the top 50 for the first time following her first WTA Tour title at the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies in Austria.
