Local favourite James Blake completed his rain-affected match against Taylor Dent in less than a minute on his way to the second round of the Delray Beach ITC on Wednesday.

The all-American match had been delayed with Blake just two points away from victory earlier in the week, leaving him to fire two-winners to wrap up a 6-1 3-6 6-3 win.

World No.50 Blake will meet Dutchman Robin Haase in the second round on Thursday. "That was quick," said the two-time Delray Beach finalist. "[It's] what I was hoping for, but it's a different situation than you're really used to when you're getting ready for a match. You get all warmed up and ready to go, you're excited after just the first point, so it's tough mentally, but I got through it and now I'm ready for more."

In the day's other match, it was a second-round battle of the surnames as sixth-seeded Florian Mayer fell to unrelated Argentine Leonardo Mayer 6-4 7-6.

Florian could only convert one of four break point opportunities in the second set and conceded one of only two on his own serve.

"Florian is a great player," Leonardo said. "Today he wasn't playing his best and I was able to take opportunity of my chances and win key points. I am very appreciative of the fans and that the crowd was behind me here, and I look forward to the next round."
