Even gold at London 2012 won't be enough for Ennis

Jessica Ennis believes not even a gold medal at London 2012 will quench her thirst for success.

The world and European heptathlon champion is set to be the golden girl of the 2012 Games, but despite having blown away a strong field on her seasonal debut in Gotzis, Ennis is never satisfied.

Ennis exceeded the personal target she had set herself before the meeting and despite recording personal best times in both the 200m and 800m, Ennis believes she would never be happy, even if she broke the world record.

"I don't think you're ever completely satisfied as an athlete," Ennis said in the Daily Mirror. "Even if you won the Olympics and got the world record, I think you'd still be a little like, 'Oh, why didn't I run a little bit faster in the hurdles or jump a little bit higher?'

"As an athlete you're never happy and you always want a bit more. That's certainly what keeps me moving forward and not getting too wrapped up in what I've already achieved.

"I was definitely disappointed with my hurdles in Gotzis. The conditions were great and I was in really good running shape as my PBs in the 200m and 800m showed. But I was not happy with my time of 13.03secs. I should have run quicker."

Providing she can stay fit, Ennis will be the overwhelming favourite to defend her world title at this summer's World Championships in South Korea. And Ennis believes the favourite tag has changed her attitude to competition.

"Once you start winning a few events and championships it changes you a little bit," she said. "It gives you confidence. So my goal for 2011 is to improve on my performances from last year, and put myself in the best position for next year. If I keep winning, it will give me the self-belief that I can do it at the Olympics."
