Buemi upbeat after F-duct test

Sebastien Buemi is confident Toro Rosso is set to take a step forward after a successful test of its new F-duct.

Buemi completed a straight-line test at Vairano on Wednesday to evaluate the new part and reported that "the results were positive". Toro Rosso is the last of the established teams to adopt the concept, which reduces drag and improves top speed, but is set to be outlawed next year with the introduction of adjustable rear wings.

"We were lucky to get all our work done as it threatened to rain for most of the day, but we managed to test a variety of new elements, which we hope to introduce as soon as possible and I would say that overall, the results were positive," Buemi wrote on his blog.

"From a pure driving point of view, aero testing can be a bit boring, because you just go up and down in a straight line. However, it is quite a complicated procedure and you do not have much time, as the rules only allow four days of aero testing during the season, so it is vital to make the most of them, cramming in as much work as possible."

Buemi currently has a contract with Toro Rosso next year but is eyeing a seat with the senior Red Bull team in 2012.

"My goal is to have a seat at Red Bull, to follow in the footsteps of Sebastian Vettel," Buemi told the Swiss newspaper Le Nouvelliste. "But first I have to convince the bosses. First of all, it requires good results, because a car like that has to be deserved. Today, I am happy to drive a Toro Rosso, with the team that gave me my chance."

Buemi is hoping to take the place of championship contender Mark Webber, whose currently contracted until the end of 2011.

"Admittedly he has had a superb season," said Buemi. "But it is a place that could be free for 2012. But first it is my task to prove myself."
