Toro Rosso ready to run TR7

Toro Rosso has announced that its 2012 car - the TR7 - will run at the first pre-season test at Jerez on February 7.

A change to the rules this year has meant that the new cars have to pass all of the FIA crash tests before they can be tested, whereas previously they only had to pass them before the opening grand prix of the season. Toro Rosso announced on its website that all tests had been completed on Thursday, and that it would be running the new car at Jerez.

"Who says crashing is always a bad thing? Having previously passed various static crash tests, today, our new car, the STR7, passed all remaining FIA crash tests," the statement read. "So we now know the car is strong enough and as from 7 February in Jerez, we can start work on making it quick and reliable."

With only three pre-season tests and one mid-season test this year most teams are trying to get as much track time as possible with their new cars. Only Mercedes has so far decided not to run its 2012 car until the second test, and Toro Rosso now joins Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, Renault, Force India, Sauber and Caterham in testing new cars on February 7.
