Rory MacDonald 'would gladly fight Fitch', wants Condit

Rory MacDonald is ready to take on the man nobody wants to face, Jon Fitch, if it gets him to where he wants to be in the UFC welterweight division.

The 22-year-old Canadian has been tipped to become the next Georges St-Pierre after he beat Mike Pyle at UFC 133, and the best way to prove that might be to beat the 170lb division's No. 1 contender, Fitch. Only GSP has beaten Fitch in the AKA man's last 24 bouts, but MacDonald insists he would not duck him.

However, in an ideal world he confesses Carlos Condit would be next on his hitlist, after Condit inflicted his only loss at UFC 115.

"I'll fight anyone," MacDonald told the ESPN UFC Podcast. "A lot of people don't want to fight Jon Fitch, but I'll gladly fight him, anybody.

"I'd really like to rematch Carlos Condit though. [I'd take that fight] 100 per cent."

MacDonald has been training with St-Pierre, hoping to one day emulate him as the welterweight champion, but he is refusing to get carried away with his progress, insisting there are areas to improve everywhere.

"I feel like I can beat anyone, that's my confidence," MacDonald said. "But I know I'm a young guy, I know I have to stay grounded and improve. There's still so much to learn, I'm still very young, I still have so much time to evolve."

As for a future fight with St-Pierre, MacDonald would not be drawn, stating: "I don't know about any of that. We're just working together and he's just helping me like all my other team-mates in training."
