Chael Sonnen has promised to "bury" Vitor Belfort if the pair ever meet inside an Octagon.

Sonnen and Belfort's paths may just be aligning in the UFC middleweight division, with Sonnen expected to provide the next challenge to Anderson Silva's title. Should he win the championship, Belfort would arguably head the queue of contenders.

The pair have not been complimentary of each other in recent weeks, with Belfort recently claiming Sonnen is "not vicious" with his ground-and-pound. The Brazilian accused him of being a one-dimensional wrestler.

Sonnen, predictably, has issued a reply, firstly opting to forgive Belfort before threatening to bury him. The Team Quest fighter also insinuated Belfort was a child.

"I forgive Vitor, he's a fool," Sonnen stated. "He knows not what he says. You can't hold a fool accountable because he got a little stupid in the media one time.

"First off, if my name comes out of his mouth again, I will bury him where he stands.

"Second off, tell Vitor to meet me at the hotel in 30 minutes because daddy's got a plane to catch and I'm summoning him to carry my luggage."
