Ross Pearson will make his bow in the UFC featherweight division at the end of this year, after it was reported that he will take on Junior Assuncao.

Pearson has a burning desire to claim gold in the UFC, so he has put his body through a lengthy weight-cutting test to ensure he can perform at 145lbs. The answer has been extremely positive.

As a result, the TUF 9 winner will drop into the featherweight landscape as a ready-made contender, and he will get his chance to prove his credentials on December 30.

Pearson, who has been working closely with bantamweight king Dominick Cruz, meets Assuncao at UFC 141, confirmed by Tatame. The card is headlined by Brock Lesnar v Alistair Overeem.

Assuncao is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt with Capoeira routes, and has won his last seven fights. He is 1-0 upon his return to the UFC after he was axed in 2007 after losses to Kurt Pellegrino and Nate Diaz.
