Injured Rick Story gets new 4-fight UFC contract

Rick Story has revealed that he suffered a knee injury midway through his loss to Martin Kampmann at UFC 139, but the welterweight has been handed a new four-fight contract with MMA's top promotion.

Story started powerfully against Kampmann, swarming the Dane with a series of early hooks that appeared to wobble his opponent. The 27-year-old arguably took the first round, but then began to fade.

Kampmann established his superior kickboxing in the remaining two stanzas, and he also stuffed a series of Story takedown attempts. In the end, Kampmann was handed a split decision corrected to a unanimous decision after the bout.

However, Story revealed on Wednesday that he struggled for movement from the second round onwards, and he continues to receive the full support of the UFC.

"I wanted to apologise to all of my fans for my last performance, I ruptured my bursa sack and tore my meniscus in the second round," wrote Story on Twitter. "I lost all strength and made it difficult to fight.

"But I just signed a new four-fight contract with the UFC so be ready for me to fight again soon!"

The bursa sack is a fluid-filled cushion between bones, tendons and muscles, which aids freedom of movement in the major joints of the body.
