Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann have been slated to fight in March 2012 in a potentially explosive welterweight collision.

Kampmann boxed his way to a decision victory over Rick Story at UFC 139 last weekend. The Dane's win ended a two-fight losing streak.

Alves is also heading in the right direction once again after he beat Papy Abedi at UFC 138. The Pitbull is bidding to get back to a title shot having already lost once to Georges St-Pierre.

MMA Weekly and Tatame have confirmed Alves and Kampmann will meet next year, on a card scheduled for March 3. Alves admitted he was asked to fight at UFC 142 in Brazil but felt the bout would arrive too soon.

"It's too close… They've asked me if I wanted to fight in Rio and I said I'd love to, but not this time," Alves told Tatame. "There'll be many events in Brazil and sure I'll be fighting in one of them."
