Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes has called off retirement plans in pursuit of one more fight with the organisation.

Hughes has suffered KO defeats in each of his two most recent fights, and after both he made no secret of the fact he was considering bringing an end to his career.

However, while his wife wants him to give it up, Hughes has the itch to return - and he is putting his future in the hands of UFC president Dana White.

"I think Dana could be the final decision-maker," Hughes told mmafighting.com. "My wife's a great lady, but she's not going to tell me when Matt Hughes retires.

"I'm just hoping I can fight next. We'll see what happens - I'm not scouting anybody out, I'm just hoping the opportunity is here for me now."

Hughes, a Hall of Famer, was all-conquering in the early stages of this century before he surrendered the welterweight title to Georges St-Pierre.
