Werdum open to Brazil showdown with Mir

Fabricio Werdum wants his next fight to take place in Brazil later this year, and he is more than happy for his opponent to be Frank Mir.

Werdum delivered one of the most polished performances of his career to dominate Roy Nelson at UFC 143, exhibiting impressive Muay Thai to bloody the face of his opponent. The Brazilian took home a unanimous decision on his UFC return, and can now look forward to big fights in the future.

Perhaps the most obvious rival would be Mir, a man blessed with arguably the best jiu-jitsu in the heavyweight division. Werdum himself boasts a proud record in BJJ, so a potential match-up in June could be on the cards.

"I hope I can fight in June in Brazil," Werdum told Tatame. "I get there on Monday (6th) to be part of TUF (with Wanderlei Silva), but I won't stop training, even because the whole team will be together there.

"God bless me, UFC will give me the chance to bring this joy to people in Brazil.

"I'm prepared to fight anybody. I've never picked out opponents my entire life. If it's Frank Mir, excellent. If it's not, it's ok. I just want to show I'm in the top 10 of the division".

Werdum also shed light on the danger of Roy Nelson, revealing he was made to feel sick by the power of Big Country's punches.

"I'm still crazy, the guy punched me f***ing hard," Werdum said. "When I stood up, my blood pressure dropped and I felt sick. I couldn't walk after the fight because of the pain. Four of five elbows he threw at me really caught me, so it hurt but it was a nice win."
