Anthony Pettis' manager has confirmed that the former WEC lightweight champion will undergo surgery which will rule him out for around eight weeks.

With UFC president Dana White crushing Pettis' hopes of a shot at Ben Henderson's belt by announcing the winner of Nate Diaz and Jim Miller would have the next crack after Frankie Edgar, Pettis has decided to address some nagging injuries.

He has not revealed the nature of the injury, but it is likely to be investigative, cleaning out a knee or elbow joint.

Pettis, who beat Henderson back in 2010 before the pair entered the UFC, believes he is the No. 1 contender for Henderson's belt, but he will not return to the Octagon until mid-to-late summer, his manager Mike Roberts has confirmed.
