Chael Sonnen claims he has given up hope of ever battling UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Sonnen, a two-time middleweight title challenger, steps up to light-heavyweight in December in order to take on Forrest Griffin at UFC 155.

He has already begun a war of words with Jones, branding him a "little punk kid", and while Jones did take the bait and respond with a verbal volley, he is adamant Sonnen is nowhere near worthy of a title shot.

"I will never fight Jones," Sonnen said to FUEL TV. "He will never fight me. He is surrounded by a bunch of yes men. When he asks them, 'Is Chael better than me?' they tell him, 'Yes.' When he asks, 'Would Chael beat me?' they tell him, 'Yes.' When he asks, 'Will Chael take my title away?' they tell him, 'Yes.'"

Meanwhile, it has been announced that Joe Proctor has agreed to fight Ramsey Nijem at UFC on Fox 5, which takes place on December 8.
