UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva says George St-Pierre's UFC 154 clash with Carlos Condit is "meaningless" and the result will not affect the chances of a superfight between the pair materialising.

St Pierre, who has not fought since April 2011, is set to make return from a knee injury as he bids to defend his title against interim champion Condit in Montreal on November 17.

But regardless of whether St-Pierre wins or loses, Silva has made it clear that he is keen to step into the Octagon with the Canadian, in what is expected to be at a 178-pound catchweight.

"Regardless of who wins, even if St-Pierre loses, a fight with me can happen," Silva told Sport TV. "A fight like this is above anything else. St. Pierre is one of the greatest of the UFC. Right now, a fight with Condit is meaningless."
