UFC 153 has been left in turmoil after the event lost its two biggest fights on Tuesday.

UFC president Dana White had already revealed Quinton Rampage Jackson was out of his bout with Glover Teixeira due to an elbow problem. But now the main event has gone too.

Jose Aldo was set to meet Frankie Edgar in the latest defence of his featherweight title, but the Brazilian has been ruled out with a foot problem. The news comes days after Aldo was involved in a motorcycle accident, although it is unclear if the injury is related.

"Now Aldo is out with foot injury," White tweeted on Tuesday. "Main and co-main in the same day!! Another amazing day at the UFC. We have some work to do."

UFC 153 is scheduled for October 13 in Rio de Janeiro, so the UFC faces a race against time to find at least one big fight to add to the card.

Currently there is no news of a replacement opponent for Edgar or Teixeira, so Erick Silva v Jon Fitch stands as the most high profile bout on the card.
