Josh Koscheck is angling for an intriguing welterweight battle with Nick Diaz, and he is waiting for a response from the former Strikeforce man over a proposed encounter.

Koscheck has already written off 2012, revealing the UFC has no plans for him to fight before the end of the year. However, he is determined to return to the Octagon early in 2013, with UFC 157 his targeted event.

The major problem behind Koscheck's suggestion of Super Bowl weekend is that the event takes place on February 3, a day before Diaz returns from suspension.

That would appear to be an immovable obstacle for the pair to meet at UFC 157, but nevertheless the UFC might still fancy making the fight further down the line. The onus is on both Diaz and matchmaker Joe Silva to make the bout happen.

"I'd like to fight before February, but Cesar [Gracie] is calling for me [to] fight [Nick] Diaz in February Super Bowl weekend," Koscheck tweeted on Sunday.

"What you guys think? I am down! Don't be scared homie."

Diaz remains in the UFC's thinking for a potential title bout with the winner of Georges St-Pierre v Carlos Condit, although president Dana White recently revealed the Stockton fighter would have to take another fight before challenging for a belt.
